Mantras Can Help Your Goals

Mantras help to shift thoughts and focus to desirable outcomes.

That which uplifts by constant repetition is a Mantra. "Continuous repetition, contemplation and recollection of a word or statement, (either in prose or poetic form), which protects us and yields beneficial results is a Mantra." Mantras are Vedic in origin. Om is the most important of all mantras. All mantras generally begin and often also end with Om. Vedic philosophers have equated Om with God, similar to Christianity where God is viewed as being omnipresent-- in the beginning as well as in the end.

Whether you set New Year's resolutions or not, checking in with yourself to gauge where you are with your goals or setting a goal for yourself is not a bad idea. Have you ever used a Mantra to aid your goal setting process? Simply develop a word or statement that embodies your desired outcome, and repeat this word or statement to affirm your goal. Some people like to use Mantras in their meditations; some may integrate Mantras in their morning routine-- chanting it/them before they get out of bed. Here are a few Mantras that can aid with goal setting and transformation:

"Sat Chit Ananda"

Because Mantras are Vedic in origin, you may come across some Mantras that are Sanskrit.

"Sat Chit Ananda" is a popular Sanskrit Mantra that helps to open consciousness and invites a feeling of overall peace in to your life. It is usually used in transcendental practices. Sat-- truth, absolute being, that which never changes; Chit-- consciousness, how the present is experienced, the self; Ananda-- bliss, absolute bliss consciousness, fullness of life, self-referral experience(s).

So if you are thinking about inviting more calm in to your personal vibration-- "Sat Chit Ananda."

"I am..."

Without being aware, the way you describe or perceive yourself can hinder your goals. For example, if you grew up hearing over and over, "you shouldn't do that, that doesn't fit you..." then chances are you may have internalized an "I can't" belief about yourself. "I am..." Mantras help to shift internalized self-depreciating beliefs and refocus your thoughts in a way that will empower you to work on your goal-- the one(s) you previously believed you were not worthy of accomplishing. So, it would sound something like this but repeated, "I am thriving," "I am feeling positive about my life," "I am love."

"Life takes care of me"

Similar to repeating "the Universe has my back" or "everything is working out for my good," Mantras that are affirmative regarding the natural flow of life, can help you maneuver through your day to day experience(s) with less internalized stress. These types of Mantras help you to maintain your positive vibration, so that you can maintain the energy you need to fulfill your goals.

"Thank you. Thank you."

A spirit of gratitude goes a long, far and wide way. Gratitude helps you to recognize where you are coming from and where you are right now. Gratitude helps you to develop deeper appreciation for the good (and the bad you have experienced) in your life, and invites more of what you desire in to your life. A quick way how this Mantra would work-- without having a specific thing to give thanks for, on inhale chant "thank you" and on exhale chant "thank you." Repeat this for a minimum of 30 seconds. This is one of my favorite Mantras-- on inhale I usually imagine myself receiving so my "thank you" is one of appreciation, and on exhale I usually imagine myself being in a situation to give so my "thank you" is one of gratitude for the opportunity.

So, consider if a Mantra may enhance a goal you are working on or just your overall being.
